D.C. Memo. No. 46.
DEPARTMENT OF OVERSEAS TRADE.
OVERSEAS TRADE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL.
Recommendations of Trade Missions and Delegations.
A departmental meeting was recently held under the
chairmanship of Sir Edward Crowe to consider the various
recommendations which have been made by Trade Missions and
Delegations. It appeared to the meeting that some of the
recommendations were general in character and did not provide
for any action by any Department of His Majesty's Government.
There were on the other hand a number of important recommenda-
tions where the Department of Overseas Trade should either
initiate action or draw the attention of other Departments to
them so as to ensure that there was no possibility of their
being overlooked.
The recommendations falling within the latter category have
now been grouped in such a way as to enable them to be
considered collectively, and have been incorporated in the
attached memorandum.
For instance, recommendations in regard
to group selling have been made by the Trade Mission to South
Africa, the Economic Mission to the Far East, the Trade Mission
to Egypt, the Sheffield Industrial Mission to South America, the
Scottish Woollen Trade Delegation to the U.S.A. and Canada, and
by the Leather Delegation to Northern Europe, and these
recommendations have been collated.
With a view to implementing these recommendations
wherever
practicable, the Minister is extremely anxious that
all possible action falling within the scope of the Department's
functions should be taken without delay, and for this purpose he
wishes to have the constructive guidance of the Council.
